Special Education Teacher (Laupahoehoe) 

Laupahoehoe Community Public Charter School is seeking Special Education Teachers Gr. K - 5 Fully Self Contained Classroom (FSC)
For the 2017-2018 School Year

Primary Purpose:

To create a flexible program and class environment favorable to learning and personal growth; to establish effective rapport with students; to motivate students to develop skills, attitudes and knowledge needed to provide a good foundation in all grades; in accordance with each student's ability; to establish good relationships with parents and other staff members.

1.) Responsibilities
A. Instructs student citizenship and basic subject matter.
B. Develops lesson plans and instructional materials and provides individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt curriculum to the needs of each student.
C. Uses a variety of instructional strategies, such as inquiry, group discussion, lecture, ect.
D. Translates lesson plans into learning experiences so as to best utilize the available time for instruction.
E. Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom.
F. Evaluates students' academic and social growth, keeps accurate, appropriate records, and prepares progress reports and report cards.
G. Communicates with parents through conferences and other means to discuss students' progress and interpret the school program and educational plans.
H. Identifies student needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students solve health, attitude and learning problems.
I. Creates an effective environment for learning through functional and attractive displays, bulletin boards and interest centers.
J. Maintains professional competence through in-service education activities provided by professional growth activities.
K. Participates cooperatively with the Director to develop the method by which the teacher will be evaluated in conformance with guidelines. 
L. Selects and requisitions books and instructional aides; maintains required inventory records.
M. Supervises students in out-of-classroom activities during the school day and while on excursions.
N. Administers group and individual standardized test in accordance with state testing program.
O. Participates in curriculum development programs as required.
P. Participates in faculty committees and the sponsorship of student activities and school events.

2.) Qualifications 
a. Bachelor's degree in a related subject from an accredited university
b. Hawaii State Teaching License in subject area.
c. Experience
d. Highly Qualified Teacher Status in the State of Hawaii preferred

3.) Compensation
Teacher's salary and benefits are determined by the most recent collective bargaining agreement between the Department of Education and the Hawai`i State Teacher's Association using a modified salary range step schedule that recognizes teaching experience.

Substitute Teachers 

LCPCS will develop its own in-house substitute teacher call list.  Please submit your resume and references if you are interested in being considered as a substitute for our school.  

LCPCS seeks qualified substitutes who have met the requirements to be a DOE substitute (earned a Bachelor’s degree and have taken the substitute teacher course).  Interested individuals who do not meet DOE requirements will at least have to have been a substitute at LHES to be considered.  All interested persons will be interviewed by the Director before being placed on the substitute call list.
