Interact Club

Rotary Club iconThe LCPCS Interact Club was formed in SY2015 in partnership with the Rotary Club of Hilo. Rotarians provide mentoring at monthly board and club meetings, and have sponsored club members for the annual Rotary Youth Leadership Awards. The Interact Club is open to students in grades 7 through 12.

The Club’s goal is to have members learn and practice “Service Above Self.” Many of their projects have been at the school level, providing help and support at school events (like the Ragner Relay, the 2016 Halloween Party, and the annual vision and hearing clinic). Members available for broader community service have also volunteered with Hilo Rotary Club projects.

Many of the service projects are planned and initiated by club members, requiring students to organize, communicate, problem-solve, and see a project through from start to finish. Good “real life” experience!

In September (2017), LCPCS Interact Club member Jaselyn Mahoe-Subica, along with two LCPCS buddies (Aliza Gonzales and Gerlyn Torres), joined a Kamehameha student (Laie Smith), LCPCS teacher and Interact Club leader Kaulana Smith, and Waiakea High School's Interact Club members to clean a large chunk of shoreline along Hilo Bay. Jaselyn even ventured into the water after a floating plastic bag. All of us, along with the turtles, are grateful to them!
